 Orientation of My Psychological Services

Although I believe that human faith will inevitably affect the way counsellors do counselling, I also believe that my first obligation to my clients is to assist them with their problems--not to evangelise.

My counselling would be said to be eclectic because I am not committed to any of the popular forms of counselling for a variety of reasons.

However, where the Spirit of my services will be different from other psychologists is that the criterion I use for determining what I will use is Christian faith and practice.

With many clients discussions about God, life, death, hope, forgiveness, the past and the future do occur. With other clients I have not deemed it helpful.

I believe along with others that 'love cures' inasmuch as therapeutic compassion, empathy, nurture, attention, responsiveness and careful listening are all given to clients.

In these days when so much emphasis is placed on evidence-based treatments, it is well to consider that no 'treatment' has been shown to be superior to any other.

Counselling is an art and has to be learned like any other art under the guidance of a master-mentor or teacher.

It is specifically the art of making relevant, therapeutic conversation with another person who is in need of help.
